School Closures due to Hurricane Ian in your area

Clay County School Closings: One Clay closing schools and district offices for Wednesday, September 28, through Friday, September 30. After school activities and athletics will continue as normal for today, Tuesday, September 27th, 2022. Due to the projection and potential aftermath of the storm, in partnership with Emergency Management and our mutual agreement for the use of our schools that operate as hurricane shelters.

Putnam County: has announced it will close down schools from Wednesday through Friday after officials made the decision to activate schools for community members needing a safe place to shelter.

Putnam County: shelters will open Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In Duval County, students will be dismissed 2.5 hours earlier Wednesday than they would on a normal school day. Wednesday is already a scheduled early release day; the district is shortening the early release day by 45 minutes, and thus, school will end 2.5 hours earlier than a normal day. District extended day programs will operate on regular hours. Team Up and non-district programs are canceled. **Families should contact their school for verification on whether their afterschool program is canceled. Athletic activities and extracurricular activities are canceled until Oct. 3. District offices will close at 5 p.m. The district will remain closed Thursday and Friday and all activities are canceled.

Joshua Christian Academy

  • Wednesday, September 28, 2022:  All K-12 students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m.
  • School will be closed on Thursday, September 29, 2022 and Friday, September 30, 2022.

Nassau County schools will close Thursday and Friday because of Hurricane Ian. All afterschool activities will be canceled for Wednesday-Friday of this week.

Bradford County schools and offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday.

Rymfire Elementary is being prepared as a special needs shelter, and Bunnell Elementary will be a general population/pet shelter. They are expected to open Wednesday.

All St. Johns County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. All athletic contests and extracurricular activities will also be canceled starting Wednesday until further notice. Any activities or athletic contests and extended day services will operate as normal for Tuesday. District Administration is working with the Emergency Operations Center and will provide additional updates as necessary via this communication system and on our website www.stjohns.k12.fl.us.

FSCJ Closing: close all FSCJ campuses and centers Wednesday, September 28 through Friday, September 30, including online classes. Campuses and Centers are scheduled to reopen on Saturday, October 1 at regularly scheduled times. Providence School and Preschool will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday through the weekend. There will be no extracurricular activities during this time.

Episcopal School of Jacksonville’s three campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday.

University of North Florida is canceling all classes, including online classes, starting Wednesday through Saturday. University offices will be closed during this time. Activities and events scheduled on campus are also canceled. The University plans to resume normal operations on Sunday.

The website shows Florida State University is canceling classes Tuesday through Friday.

Jacksonville University is also closing its campus Wednesday through Friday.

All classes and activities on all Florida State College at Jacksonville campuses and centers are canceled Wednesday through Friday, including online classes. In addition, all faculty and administrative offices will also be closed Wednesday through Friday. Employees who are classified as essential personnel will be contacted by their supervisors to discuss work schedules. Classes will resume and all locations will reopen on Saturday, Oct. 1 at regularly scheduled times.
