Amena Brown Accepts First-Ever Seneca Women Podcast Award

The 2021 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards celebrated the best in podcasting over the last year, including the creators who have made important and impactful contributions to podcasting today, one of them being Amena Brown.

iHeartRadio partnered with the Seneca Women Podcast Network and P&G to help lead the way in podcast diversity, and created the first-ever Seneca Women Podcast Award. Brown was recognized as the award's first recipient for helping to amplify the voices of other women via her podcast "HER with Amena Brown."

Presented with the award by Gwen Stefani, the singer and business woman explained of Brown, "Amena is a spoken word poet, a performing artist, author and podcast host. Her podcast, 'HER with Amena Brown,' celebrates Black, Indigenous, Latinx and Asian women by giving them the space to share their stories and their art. She brings them into her living room to have conversations that uplift and inspire women all over the world, and she does this all from a place of joy, acceptance and love for the wonderful women all around us."

In accepting her award, Amena explained:

"I actually started this podcast because I was getting really angry at the amount of meetings and conversations that I was having where people would say, 'Oh, we would consider a woman of color for this opportunity, but we don't know where the women of color are.' Women of color are everywhere, we're brilliant, it's our time, and I'm looking forward to sharing even more of our stories."
