Duane Smith was "magnet fishing" with his 11 year old grandson when they reeled in a big catch! "Magnet fishing" is done with a strong magnet attached to a rope and then fishes out objects that have sunk.
This was their first time "magnet fishing" and within 10 minutes they caught two sniper rifle receivers wrapped in shrink wrap!
They were in Homestead, Florida, just outside of Miami, Florida, casting their magnet rope off of a bridge into a canal.
Duane is a former infantry soldier and trained in deploying sniper weapons, so he knew what they had "reeled" in. No ammunition was found, but they took their "catch" home and cleaned them and then turned them over to the Miami Dade police.
Some of the best parts of fishing are the fishing stories, and it sounds like 11 year Allen has a great story!
