Random testing of students and staff for coronavirus begins at UCF

Two more Greek organizations at the University of Central Florida in Orlando have been ordered to quarantine as UCF begins random testing of students and staff for COVID-19.

Three positive cases turned up at the Tri-Delta sorority and Kappa Sigma fraternity.

The testing- which is starting with the school's Greek community- will continue through the semester and any student who refuses to be tested could be suspended. Students are notified by email when it's their turn to be tested.

Meanwhile, as the pandemic continues, a mobile flu shot cart has begun cruising around campus offering free flu shots to students. UCF Student Health Service Vice President Dr. Michael Deichen says health care workers already have enough on their plates treating caronavirus patients.

"You know it's bad enough that COVID is out there," Dr. Deichen says. "You can largely prevent influenza."

Members of the Greek community are being tested first because university officials believe they are most likely to become infected because of the family-like nature of Greek life.
