Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams to retire

Sheriff Mike Williams will only be Jacksonville's sheriff for a few more days. From a written statement this morning, he stated, ""After some consideration, I have decided that a court battle over my residency would not be good for our community. That being said, I have decided to retire on June 10."

Williams has come under fire since a Duval County charter was recognized that if a sheriff moves out of the county, he must step down. Williams moved to Nassau County last year. Williams retires after 31 years of service in the Jacksonville's Sheriff's Office.

Governor DeSantis will appoint a temporary sheriff until a special election is held later this year.
