Most Americans Embraced Online Dating Over The Last Year

Dating over the past year certainly wasn’t easy, since you couldn’t really meet people in person. But that doesn’t mean people gave up on finding love, which means many turned to the Internet.

A new Dating.com survey finds:

  • Since March of last year, 90% of singles have been consistently looking for love through online dating.
  • That’s an increase of 8% from the previous year.
  • 70% of singles are open to virtual dating, an increase from 50% last year.
  • Over the past year more than 925,000 new singles registered for the dating site.
  • 54% of those people actually say they prefer online dating to dating IRL.
  • The pandemic is playing a role in finding love though, with 83% of those surveyed saying they are looking for a partner who is on the same page as them when it comes to safety protocols.

But not everyone is embracing online dating to find love. In fact, some people simply gave up on looking over the past year.

  • The survey finds 6% of singles paused their dating profile entirely at some point over the last 12 months.
