The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is seeking families who can temporarily care for dogs and cats while Hurricane Milton passes. We are asking families to serve as “Storm Troopers” and host a dog or cat for a sleepover during the storm. This is a great opportunity for our pets to ride out the storm with a family inside a cozy home instead of at the shelter.
Those interested in fostering a pet are asked to stop by JHS, 8464 Beach Blvd., during the following dates and times: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 7; 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8.
If there are still pets in need of Storm Troopers after Tuesday, and pending the path of Hurricane Milton, JHS will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, for additional foster pickups. JHS staff members and volunteers will assist you in selecting an animal to best fit into your home. “Storm Trooper” families are encouraged to spoil their sleepover guests and share pictures on social media using #JHSStormTrooper. Of course, if you fall in love during the storm, you are welcome to adopt!

During the Hurricane Helene Storm Trooper activation, 74 cats and dogs were welcomed into loving foster homes to ride out the storm. 12 dogs were adopted by their Storm Trooper fosters!
