Jacksonville Humane Society Needs Your Help

Your help is needed to empty our shelters.

The city shelter, which closed intake two weeks ago, is now closed entirely, leaving the Jacksonville Humane Society as the only organization accepting owner surrenders and lost pets at this time

We need to reduce our shelter population of dogs and cats through adoption and foster immediately. Much like how we prepare for a hurricane, JHS is seeking temporary homes for our pets so that we can do our best to serve the community in the wake of this unique situation.

JHS is seeking help in the following ways:

Adopt: JHS adoption hours are currently weekdays 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adoption fees are waived all week!

Foster:Can you temporarily provide a home to a dog or cat in need? Please come to JHS during adoption hours and inquire at the front desk. Fosters should be prepared to foster pets for at least 14 days. Supplies will be provided while they last.

Donate: Those who cannot adopt or foster can support our efforts using jaxhumane.org/donate .

If you're going to be stuck at home for awhile, a pet can be the purr-fect solution to your social distancing woes. Belly rubs are encouraged!

According to the CDC and World Health Organization, there is no reason to believe that pets can contract or transmit COVID-19. Here's a link to an informational video with more info.

Our adoption, pet help and veterinary services departments are currently open during normal business hours. All of our non-essential programs, such as Pawsitive Reading and training classes, are currently postponed until future notice.

Jacksonville, you have always responded to our calls for help in the past and we know that this will be no exception. Your dedication to pets in need during the last hurricane went viral. Can we do it again? Let's show the world that in this community - generosity breeds joy!

Adopt:JHS adoption hours are currently weekdays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adoption fees are waived beginning 3/16/2020.
