Jelly Roll delivered a moving rendition of “I Am Not Okay” when he took the stage at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday evening (September 15). The show took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The reigning 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards Best New Artist in both Pop and Country categories performed during the In Memoriam segment to honor actors, writers, directors, executives and others who passed away over the last year.
“I believe that music is therapeutic. I believe that music can heal. I also believe that storytelling is just as cathartic,” Jelly Roll said before his performance. “I hope that this song can act as a healing moment for those mourning the storytellers we have lost this year. If you are feeling lost or alone tonight, I want you to know that it’s OK to not always be OK.”
Jelly Roll performed one of the first songs to release from his upcoming 14-track album, Beautifully Broken. The highly-anticipated follow-up to his debut country record in 2023, Whitsitt Chapel, also includes “Liar” and “Get By.” The full album will release on October 11.
