Sad news.... the founder of Sandals Resorts International has passed away.
His story is just fascinating. He was born in Jamaica and actually started out in sales. In 1968, he started his own company, importing and selling mostly air conditioning units. Then, in 1981, he bought a couple of abandoned hotels in Montego Bay and that was the early start of Sandals Resorts. He built that into Sandals Resorts International, which is the Caribbean's leading all-inclusive resort company. Not only that, but he built a conglomeration in Jamaica, that collectively is Jamaica's largest non-governmental employer.
I have been so lucky that I've been able to travel to a few different Sandals and Beaches resorts in the Caribbean and they are gorgeous. The rooms are nice, the service is terrific, the food is fantastic and the views are breathtaking. To think that the guy who started all this began as a salesman is really inspiring.
Here are some pics of a couple of past Sandals trips.
