Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were formed out of a Gainesville band called Mudcrutch, featuring mostly guys that grew up in the Gainesville area. As Mudcrutch, they played in the Jacksonville area many times. One of the main players in the band actually called Jacksonville home for a good part of his childhood.
