There have been some great teams in the history of Florida high school sports; some local greats like Trinity football, Bolles football, Ribault girls basketball. But no team has come close to matching the streak that is still current, thanks to yesterday's girls 2A soccer championship.
St. Johns Country Day in Clay County won their eleventh, yes their ELEVENTH, straight state championship with a win over Shorecrest Prep. It's a feat that is unmatched in the major team sports (basketball, baseball, football, softball and volleyball) in the state.
To put it in perspective, the freshmen on this team were four years old when they started this run.
That's going to be hard to top, but then again they go for 12 next year! Congrats to these champions!
